"Easy to install" – Part 1

What do I need to enable in my (2.6) kernel to make USB keyboards work?

My newly acquired IBM keyboard/personal defence weapon and USB->PS/2 box isn’t working in Linux. Works fine in Windows and in my PC’s BIOS.

There must be some small setting I’ve not enabled as the converter box is detected and powers up, but that’s it.

The box identifies itself as:

Quote: dmesg output
Feb 14 18:40:23 hex usb 3-2: new low speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2
Feb 14 18:40:23 hex input: Symbiose lab inc. Symbiose PS/2 Keyboard - PS/2 Mouse as /class/input/input3
Feb 14 18:40:23 hex input: USB HID v1.00 Keyboard [Symbiose lab inc. Symbiose PS/2 Keyboard - PS/2 Mouse] on usb-0000:00:03.1-2
Feb 14 18:40:23 hex input: Symbiose lab inc. Symbiose PS/2 Keyboard - PS/2 Mouse as /class/input/input4
Feb 14 18:40:23 hex input: USB HID v1.00 Mouse [Symbiose lab inc. Symbiose PS/2 Keyboard - PS/2 Mouse] on usb-0000:00:03.1-2

And it has a little green LED that flashes, or stays on if I press keys on the keyboard.

It’s almost like it needs turning “on” or something.
