I have some new toys
First I was given a new motherboard to replace the one in my dual Celeron machine. This is now a single CPU Celeron 700. It’ll become a webserver.
I then paid a little visit to PC World and came back with a Packard Bell Easynote Laptop. It’s got half a gig of ram, 60GB HDD, DVD/CD ReWriter, NVIDIA Geforce GO graphic cardthing and the usual laptop things like small keys, irritating touchpads and tiny little fans that scream at you.
It’s now my main PC. It’s so cool being able to fold it up and take it away with you. All my stuff, portable.
Making DVDs is a black art. Before I sussed out the correct settings (1x writing, DAO mode, no UDF filesystem) I was making weird coasters… the laptop wouldn’t read them, but my cheapo DVD player would!
And to round it all off, I took some unplayed Megadrive and Gamecube games to Gamestation and traded them in for a brand-old SNES
Oh, and Vodafone gave me a Sendo X mobile for free. It’s better than my Nokia 7650 in pretty much every way possible. It’s got a 128MB MMC card in that I can fill with MP3/OGG files and listen to.
