After finding several irritating bugs in my diary uploader I’ve made a slightly better and more robust way of adding entries to my diary while offline. All I do now is email them to my diary. I spent most of the morning writing a little Perl program to pull an email apart, take the body and HTTP POST it to my website. Also, should there be any attachments in the email they’ll get uploaded via FTP to my webspace too.

So now I can email pictures directly from my phone.

And to make things even more useful I’ve set up PPP dialin. I don’t have to pay 40p/minute to get on the Internet now. It should (in theory) cost me at most 4p/min to call home and if I don’t overdo it, I shouldn’t go much over my 500 free minutes of calls.
