Last June until about November, I was writing a kind of network protocol simulator for a large company. We called our contact in this company to see if they wanted any more stuff writing and were told the company is being restructured. This means they’ve sacked a load of ‘useless’ people. Also they’ve assigned those dreaded cost-codes to everything. The simulator thing I wrote has been classed as “a potential waste of time and money”!
Nothing like being told the code you wrote is not going to be used, ever. At least they paid us. And to think I spent all that time debugging it. For all the good it did, I could have knocked up a few screens in VB and the end result would have been the same :-)
It’s their own stupid fault though for being slow and not knowing what each hand is doing, or being able to find their arses with both hands and a map.
Oh well :-)
